He is a graduate of Northwestern University and received his J.D. degree from DePaul University. He worked in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office from 1994 through 2000 before going into private practice.

As an Assistant State’s Attorney, Mr. Nikitas was entrusted to handle many first-degree murder cases, six of which went to trial, and convictions were obtained on each case. He has handled hundreds of traffic court, misdemeanor, DUI, juvenile, and felony cases.
Tried and True Experience
He has personally tried more than 50 jury trials and over 150 bench trials. His experience and success qualified him to be certified by the Illinois Supreme Court as lead counsel to handle death penalty cases as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney – a distinction that is unique in the State of Illinois. As a defense attorney, Mr. Nikitas has successfully litigated hundreds of cases and achieved outstanding results in Appellate Courts and the Illinois Supreme Court.
